Post Turkish Baklava

Today I am going to show you how to make Turkish baklava. If you go and search up baklava recipes, they will all require the use of honey and cinnamon. The real baklava doesn't have such ingredients in it recipe.

Traditional Turkish make their own phyllo dough at home, which is very time consuming and requires skill. Of course, it's also very tedious. However, in the end, the taste and texture of the baklava is going to be much better. If you don't have the time or patience like me, go ahead and buy the pre-made dough.

Ingredients:
1 Package of Phyllo Dough, Thawed (get the thinnest)
4 Sticks of Melted Butter
2 Cups of Chopped Walnuts (you might want to crush them more at home)
3 Cups of Sugar
3 Cups of Water
2 Drops (1/2 Tsp) of Lemon Juice

Tools:
16 1/2" x 12" Baking Sheet
Pastry Brush
Sharp Knife

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F

Place one phyllo sheet on the baking sheet. With the pastry brush, cover the entire phyllo sheet with the melted butter. Once again place another sheet on top and butter that. Repeat this step until you have used up half of the package.

Scatter the chopped walnuts throughout. Make sure you butter the phyllo sheet the walnuts are sitting on.

Place on the remaining phyllo sheets and butter. Butter the last layer.

With a sharp knife, cut the baklava into rectangles (or squares or diamonds).

Bake until golden brown (around 35 minutes).

While the baklava is baking, in a saucepan under medium heat, add the water and sugar. Stir. Once it starts to boil, turn the heat down to low and boil for another 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and add the lemon juice.

Let the baklava and the sugar syrup cool completely.

Once cool, pour the sugar syrup onto the baklava. Let it sit to soak.

Enjoy!

This was really good baklava! Thanks for posting up the recipe!

How much do you think 2 drops of lemon juice is? about 1 tsp worth?

Enjoyed the baklava. Thanks again!

No problem. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm thinking 1/2 teaspoon for 2 drops of lemon juice. I guess I should have made it clearer since it varies among people.

Where can you find the dough? Is it going to be at specialized grocery stores, or is this a typical product you can find on most shelves.

I'm interested in trying this dish.

Any major store should have it. It's kept in the freezer section near the ice cream right next to the frozen pie crust.
