| Ok... anyone ever make their own charcoal? I do a lot of camp fire burning up north and i was just wondering what anyones experience with actually making charcoal to use in cooking was like. I prefer the natural flavor from plain (non-matchlight) charcoal, and i never use any lighter fluid... but I was thinking maybe it's time to move on to a different type of charcoal (non-briquet style). any thoughts? | I don't know much about making your own charcoal, only that it involves a lot of work.* But I am the same way in that I dislike using briquettes.* I also use a chimney starter and don't like using lighter fluid.* I based my decision on charcoal from this site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/burntimetest/lumpcompare.htm and ultimately decided on a bag of Big Green Egg 100% Natural Lump Charcoal due to its availability at the local store.* It burns REALLY hot and stays hot.* Also not too much ash is generated. Check it out when you get a chance, very interesting write ups. |
