Default Cutting open a melon

The pictures pretty much tell the story.

Cut two disc off the melon both from the top and bottom.
This will allow you to set the melon upright. Then using a chef knife follow the skin from one end to the other, leaving behind as little skin as possible.

Once the melon is skinned, cut the melon in half and using your choice tool, some use spoons, I use... my hand. Scoop out the seeds, then using your knife, cut the melon down to size trying to keep each piece in uniform size wise.

That was my idea with this place.

You can find recipes anywhere, in fact I have tons of good cook books but they all follow the same guideline.
If I didnt know what I was doing in the first place I could never follow them. some books are REALLY BAD in the point that they skip major steps that most advanced cooks already know, but the basic kitchen users would never have an idea about what they should have done.

Thats why I wanted to do a page that had detailed how to guides that will make the end user go. wow that really isnt hard at all!

Goatse? :D j/k...

I prefer to melon ball most of the time. Takes more time, but much better appearance.

It does kinda look like.... oh never mind =)

Melon ball is no doubt the way to go if you're trying to impress. however you'll have a lot of wasted fruit.
Big party = melon balling. Eating at home maximizing your melon = cut up and eat as cubes =)

Very true.

I couldn't believe my father in law.. He MUST be bored.. He made HUGE bowls of fruit for each of his 4 kid's families, and other family members. He balled 2 LARGE Watermelons, Many Canteloupe, Honeydew, diced strawberries, chopped pineapple... He went all out. Blueberries & grapes too. I grabbed it and was like "And you didn't peel the grapes WHY?!?!
