Default Rinse Can Veggies

Well... I thought my friend (and long time cook) was completely off his rocker when he told me to rinse my green beans in the can before using them.

But I did...

And it made a HUGE difference in the way they tasted.* Now I open my cans, drain, fill with water, drain, and fill, and drain.

I found it makes the biggest difference in whole kernal corn.* But all the veggies I rinse taste more like veggies and less like cans.

So I was wondering... who else has tried this trick?

Can veggies? I'm sorry, what are those? :D

If you cant find fresh, try frozen veggies. if you cant find frozen then.... sigh.... I guess can is doable =)

Just remember, canned veggies retain a lot of their nutrients in that fluid. while it may taste good to rinse it, you're losing most of the reason you eat the veggies in the first place.

Sure fresh is better... but when all you have is a can of green beans and the store is 2 hours away... you go for the can.

I'm a firm believer in, if you can't get it fresh, you can still get it frozen. :P

Okay... so maybe I should add a vote listing to the poll (see the top of this thread) that says:

Won't eat a canned veggie if it were the last veggie in the world.

LOL

Of course, canned corn is really one of the ones that brand does matter on. I have found green beans to be about the same for all brands, but corn can be really bad with some of the off-brand labels. Peas have a bit of difference too.
