Default soaking beans thread spin off

I have put a teaspoon of baking soda in the soaking water when soaking beans- someone told me it helps make them easier to digest, I don't know that it's true. I have noticed that the outer "skin" of the beans comes off when I do this. Does anyone do this?
any truth to it?

(I've only done this with beans - black, navy, pinto. Not chickpeas)

For some reason I doubt it, but who knows, maybe it's true.
