| I have had rattlesnake once I bought. Not too good. Deep fried gator tails are alright. Now deer, squirrel and rabbits. Those are my main meats I eat. I love to hunt so I fill my deep freezer with meat. Last year I got 4 deer after I processed them it came out to about 400 lbs of deer meat.I got about 30 squirrel. Rabbits I only shot 2 but bought quite a few to kill and process. Rabbits are cheap around here. At the farmers market you can get 10 live ones for $40. The only way I like to cook rabbit and squirrel is in a crock pot cooked slow all day as they can be some tough little critters. Barbecued squirrel is real good. As you can guess I dont usually buy much meat other than pork and chicken. I am just now finishing off last years meat and deer season starts again in a few weeks. I prefer deer burgers over cow burgers any day of the week. When I process them alot of times I will mix in high fat hamburger with the deer burger because deer meat has almost no fat which makes it hard to grill with. It doesnt like to stick together too well. Mix in about 1 lb hamburger per 5 lbs of deer and it holds its shape alot better and has a little fat to it. I made deer meatloaf last night for dinner for everyone. I couldnt afford to cook all the meat my family eats if I had to buy it all. I have never got a wild turkey yet. I am going to try this year as well. |

| Junior Member | Must have had a bad cook, because rattler isn't too bad really. Tastes a lot like catfish. Basically just about any herbivor or omnivor is going to be decent eating, depending on size and age. But I like wild boar myself- the grilled backstrap is awesome.

| I wish we had wild boar here. I would be out having a great time. I have only went hunting for them once down in South Carolina on a buddies land. That was fun and excilerating. I have always heard wild turkey meat was real dry and tough. I have a turkey deep fryer I used for Thanksgiving last year. The rattlesnake I had was at a restaurant in Texas while I was driving a semi over the road. Places were semis can park and eat arent famous for good food. Gator tails they had at the fair here. They were breaded and deep fried. They were okay but not anything I would pay extra for. |

| Rabbit is excellent, it is a very lean meat. I made a rabbit stew for the guys at work about 2 months back. I was a bit gruesome hacking the bunny carcass up since it had all its guts intact but the stew turned out amazing. Here's some of the rabbit meat browning with olive oil, ![]()

| Venison is good, makes an excellent roast. My sister did up venison and black angus roasts one Christmas, my dad, brother and myself were lying torpid on the furniture for hours afterwards......it was amazing. If you see buffalo for sale it is great to eat too, nice and lean with a really nice flavour. I'm lucky that just north of me on one of my favourite motorcycle runs they have a wild game farm where they raise deer, elk and buffalo. I have to try out some of the elk in a good dish but I keep buying the buffalo, awesome steaks and ground buffalo which is really lean which I use for meat sauces or cabbage rolls.
